The team is not only looking to win awards but also promote crypto. The team hired a driver who is new to the series: Scottish-Salvadoran Sebastian Melrose. He made his debut last weekend on the Donington Park circuit.

El Salvador has endorsed the racing team’s initiative to introduce cryptocurrency in automotive sport. It announced its plans on social media in the first week of this month.

The team stated in a series tweets that they believe in bitcoin and are using the Porsche championship as a way to promote its adoption.

The championship is made up of eight race weekends in the United Kingdom, and it’s broadcast live on ITV. Bitcoin Racing said that with a TV viewership of 2.2m and 400,000 spectators in person per season, they are able to reach millions of people outside the bitcoin sector.

The team said that Sebastian, a pilot with almost a million followers, would be instrumental in accelerating bitcoin adoption. They also added that they were proud to promote El Salvador, hoping to improve the country’s perception.

Melrose said, “I am super motivated and excited to be competing in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB with Bitcoin Racing powered Richardson Racing this season.” Richardson Racing is responsible for the maintenance and technical support of Melrose’s car, last year’s champion.
